Chemotherapy-induced alopecia (CIA) causing permanent or partial hair loss in the course of chemotherapy, is a major non-desirable effect of most systemic cancer treatment therapies. To advance our knowledge from our established chemotherapy-induced alopecia ex vivo model towards more clinically relevant therapies, we have developed a novel chemotherapy-induced alopecia humanized mouse model system.
By using our innovative humanized mouse model system, we have investigated a number of bio-markers for cyto-and genotoxicity following the treatment with chemotherapeutic agents. We successfully applied our humanized mouse model system to assess the effect of cyclophosphamide, paclitaxel and doxorubicin; (chemotherapeutic agents), known for their highly frequent use in clinical treatment of various cancer types.
Our chemotherapy-induced alopecia humanized mouse model system can be effectively used to investigate and develop clinical therapies for the permanent hair loss management after chemotherapy.
